Do welfare benefits affect compensation?

If you are successful in receiving compensation and you have been receiving welfare benefits because of your injury, some of the benefits you received may be deducted from your compensation.

The defendant will pay the benefits directly to an agency of the DSS known as the Compensation Recovery Unit.

This only applies to some types of benefit and certain claims for compensation. We will be able to explain the implications of this to you when advising you on your claim.

Remember that you do not need to have decided to make a claim to contact us - we are here to give you the information to help you make an informed decision on whether to claim. Contact us for a no obligation free talk. We can talk to you over the telephone or we will make an appointment to see you in person. It's up to you.
